Our Response to the Midair Collision in D.C

Standing With Our First Responders: Mobilizing Hope in a Time of Tragedy

In the wake of the heartbreaking midair plane collision in Washington, D.C. on (DATE), our region has once again witnessed extraordinary courage from the men and women who serve on the frontlines. First responders stepped into chaos—facing danger, trauma, and overwhelming loss—to protect and care for our community. At Food on the Stove, we are humbled to stand beside them during moments of profound challenge, providing nourishment, support, and compassion when it is needed most.

During the midair plane collision response, our team supported operations at the crash site and various other locations. This effort reflects the mission that has guided Food on the Stove since its founding seven years ago: to improve the health, wellness, and overall well-being of those who run toward emergencies when others run away. What began as a small, heartfelt effort to care for first responders has grown into a robust community-driven network—one that becomes even more vital during long-standing emergency incidents and natural disasters.

Prepared to Serve During Large-Scale Emergencies

This response marks the second time in our organization’s history—the first being the COVID-19 pandemic—that Food on the Stove has mobilized at scale to support first responders during a prolonged crisis. These moments, while devastating, reaffirm our purpose. They demonstrate our ability to rapidly coordinate with restaurants, caterers, congregations, and community organizations to deliver high-quality meals and resources directly to those serving on the frontlines.

Our readiness for emergency mobilization is the result of years of relationship-building, trust, and collaboration. We are uniquely positioned to step in when incidents stretch across multiple days or impact entire regions. Whether amid a global pandemic, a natural disaster, or an unforeseen tragedy, Food on the Stove remains committed—and prepared—to provide consistent nourishment and support so first responders can remain focused on their lifesaving work.

The Power of Partnership and Community Generosity

The impact of our efforts during this tragic event is not ours alone. It is the product of an extraordinary community that refuses to stand idle in moments of crisis. We extend our deepest gratitude to the partners who answered the call with urgency, generosity, and heartfelt compassion, including:

  • Erik Bruner-Yang (Maketto)

  • Ridgewells Catering

  • Silver Diner (Navy Yard)

  • Bond 45 (National Harbor)

  • Washington Nationals

  • National Community Church

And to the many others—restaurants, volunteers, donors, and neighbors—who stepped forward without hesitation: thank you. Your support fuels our mission and uplifts the spirits of the first responders who have given so much of themselves throughout the response to this tragedy.

Honoring the Heroes Among Us

As we continue to mourn the lives lost, we also honor the resilience and commitment of those who responded with unwavering bravery. These individuals confront the unimaginable, often at great personal cost, yet they continue to serve with dignity and compassion. Food on the Stove remains dedicated to caring for them—during emergencies, in the quiet hours between calls, and every day they put on the uniform.
