Food on the Stove receives $10K grant from Verizon for EMS Initiative

Food on the Stove teamed up with Verizon to make a difference.

Twelve incredible Verizon volunteers joined us at Cookology Culinary School to help pack Frontline Fuel salads for our EMS (Eat More Salad) Initiative, fueling first responders and frontline workers with nutritious meals while they’re on duty.

As one Verizon volunteer shared during the event, “It’s a small thing for us, but it means the world to those who are always giving.”

Verizon has been a dedicated partner since the pandemic, helping us deliver meals to firehouses in D.C. when it mattered most. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and partnership in serving those who serve our communities. Their ongoing commitment to public safety and community wellness inspires us every day.

In honor of Verizon’s generosity and their $10,000 grant supporting our EMS Initiative, we introduced a special themed salad called Frontline Fuel, packed with fresh, healthy ingredients and 5G of fiber as a creative nod to their powerful network and our shared dedication to supporting those on the frontlines.

These salads were distributed at Cedar Hill Hospital in Ward 8, D.C., bringing nourishment and gratitude directly to the people who keep our communities safe.

A huge thank you to Verizon and their amazing volunteers for helping us advance our mission to improve the health and wellness of firefighters and first responders, one meal at a time.

About the EMS (Eat More Salad) Initiative

Launched in 2023, the EMS (Eat More Salad) Initiative was created to address a critical gap in workplace wellness for first responders and emergency room staff. The program is designed to enhance heart health, increase fiber intake, and make healthy eating more accessible for those serving on the frontlines.

Through this initiative, Food on the Stove provides freshly prepared, nutrient-dense salads directly to hospital emergency rooms. The long-term vision includes placing smart refrigerators in hospitals nationwide, offering 24/7 access to nutritious meals and snacks for public safety professionals.

By combining social responsibility with sustainability, the EMS Initiative not only supports the ongoing wellness needs of healthcare workers but also collects valuable data on purchasing patterns and usage trends to inform future wellness solutions.
